About low-cost airline companies

A low-cost airline company is an airline which generally offers tickets at very low prices by removing traditional services offered to passengers. The idea originated in the United States where it spread rapidly across Europe in the early 1990s. The term originally characterized low-cost airlines who managed to have lower costs than their competitors; afterwards, due to public and media, the concept referred to airlines offering tickets at very low prices through the elimination of some services.
It is good to know that many low-cost airlines apply additional fees when purchasing different tickets. The most common are:
- Travel insurance. In most cases, mandatory health assurance is sufficient and travel insurance can be useless. Many travel insurance companies put it as default, but it can be removed from the shopping cart.
- A charge for paying by credit card.
- A hold luggage fee is charged by most companies. Alternatively, for short trips, a small bag can be taken as hand luggage (free).
- One benefit of the low-cost airlines is that most of them have sales all year round.
